Complete guide for VM6 Networks VPS users using the PufferPanel Template

If you’ve deployed a VM6 Networks VPS using our PufferPanel Pre-Configured Template, your system already includes:

  • PufferPanel installed
  • Java pre-installed
  • Firewall ports open (25565)
  • System optimized for game hosting

This guide will walk you through:

  • Downloading the Minecraft server template
  • Creating your Minecraft server
  • Choosing your server type (Paper, Vanilla, Spigot, Forge, Fabric)
  • Installing plugins
  • Installing mods
  • Managing your server via PufferPanel

Step 1 — Log in to PufferPanel

Open your browser and enter:

http://YOUR-VPS-IP:8080/

Log in using your admin credentials provided after deploying your VM6 Networks PufferPanel VPS.

Step 2 — Install the Minecraft Server Template (Required)

PufferPanel does not include Minecraft server templates by default. You need to install them before creating a server.

  1. In PufferPanel, open the Admin Panel
  2. Click Templates
  3. Click Import Template

Choose any template you want to install:

  • PaperMC (Recommended)
  • Vanilla (Official Mojang)
  • Spigot
  • Forge (Mods)
  • Fabric (Mods)
  • Bedrock Edition

Why Paper Is Recommended

  • Better performance
  • More stable
  • Supports plugins
  • Lower RAM & CPU usage

Step 3 — Create Your Minecraft Server

  1. Click Servers
  2. Click Create Server
  3. Select the template you imported (Paper recommended)

Important configuration options:

Name: Your server label

Server Path:

/srv/servers/<servername>

Java Version: VM6 template includes Java 17+ (supports all modern MC versions)

Recommended RAM Allocations:

VPS RAMMax Server RAM
2GB1.5GB
4GB3GB
8GB6GB
16GB12GB

Add to the startup arguments:

-Xms1G -Xmx3G

Step 4 — Start the Server

Open your server → click Start.

The first startup will:

  • Download the server JAR
  • Generate the world
  • Apply the EULA automatically

Watch progress in the Console.

Step 5 — Connect to Your Server

Open Minecraft → Multiplayer → Add Server:

YOUR-IP:25565

Your VM6 VPS template already allows this port.

Step 6 — Installing Plugins (Paper & Spigot)

Plugins add extra features like EssentialsX, WorldEdit, LuckPerms, etc.

Upload plugin .jar files into:

/srv/servers/<servername>/plugins

Method 1 — Using PufferPanel File Manager

  1. Open your server
  2. Click Files
  3. Open the plugins folder
  4. Upload your plugin JAR
  5. Restart the server

Method 2 — Using SFTP

sftp root@YOUR-IP

Upload to the plugins/ directory → restart.

Step 7 — Installing Mods (Forge / Fabric Only)

Mods are different from plugins and only work on modded servers.

Upload mod files to:

/srv/servers/<servername>/mods

Important:

  • Mods must match the server version
  • Players must install the same mods

Step 8 — Editing server.properties

Open:

server.properties

Important settings:

motd=Welcome to my server
pvp=true
difficulty=hard
max-players=20
view-distance=10
online-mode=true

Restart to apply changes.
