At VM6, we’re committed to maintaining a reliable, high-performance network for all our customers. To achieve this, we’ve implemented intelligent monitoring systems that protect our infrastructure while respecting your privacy and legitimate use cases.
Our Approach to Network Monitoring
What We Monitor
We use automated systems that analyze network traffic patterns at the infrastructure level. Our monitoring focuses on:
- Packet rates and bandwidth usage – Detecting unusual spikes that could indicate network abuse
- Traffic patterns – Identifying potential security threats like DDoS attacks or port scanning
- Network health – Ensuring optimal performance for all customers
What We DON’T Monitor
- Content of your traffic – We respect your privacy and don’t inspect the data you send or receive
- Legitimate high-bandwidth applications – VPNs, proxies, streaming services, and content delivery are perfectly fine
- Normal business operations – High traffic from legitimate services won’t trigger any issues
Allowed Use Cases
We understand that modern applications require flexibility. You’re absolutely welcome to run:
✅ VPN services – Whether for personal use or providing VPN access to clients
✅ Proxy servers – HTTP/HTTPS proxies for legitimate purposes
✅ High-bandwidth applications – Streaming, file hosting, CDN services
✅ Web hosting – Including high-traffic websites and applications
✅ Game servers – Online gaming platforms and communities
✅ Development and testing – Including load testing on your own infrastructure
What Gets Flagged
Our monitoring system only alerts us to patterns that typically indicate network abuse or security threats:
- Port scanning – Systematic probing of network ports across multiple IPs
- DDoS participation – Servers involved in distributed denial-of-service attacks
- Spam operations – Mass email sending without proper authentication
- Botnet activity – Compromised servers being used for malicious purposes
- Network flooding – Excessive packet rates designed to overwhelm targets
If your VPS is flagged, it doesn’t mean you’ve done anything wrong – it means we’ve detected a pattern worth investigating to protect both you and our network.
Email Rate Limiting
To combat spam and protect our mail server reputation, we implement the following email sending limits:
Standard Rate Limit
- 100 emails per minute per VPS
- Applies to all SMTP ports (25, 465, 587)
- Sufficient for most legitimate applications including newsletters and transactional emails
Why We Have This Limit
- Prevents compromised servers from sending spam
- Protects our IP reputation with major email providers
- Ensures reliable email delivery for all customers
- Industry-standard practice for shared hosting environments
Need Higher Limits?
We’re happy to accommodate legitimate high-volume email needs! If you require increased email sending capacity:
Eligibility Requirements:
- Account in good standing for over 1 month
- Demonstrated legitimate email use case
- Valid business justification for higher volumes
How to Request:
- Open a support ticket explaining your use case
- Provide details about your email sending patterns
- Specify the limit you require
We typically approve requests for:
- Email marketing platforms
- SaaS applications with user notifications
- E-commerce platforms with order confirmations
- Established businesses with proven track records
Our support team reviews each request individually and can usually process approvals within 24 hours.
How We Respond to Issues
Automated Detection
When our system detects suspicious patterns, it logs the activity for review. We don’t automatically suspend or throttle services – we investigate first.
Human Review
Our team reviews flagged activity to distinguish between legitimate use and actual abuse. We understand that legitimate applications can sometimes trigger alerts.
Customer Communication
If we identify a potential issue:
- We contact you first – You’ll receive a notification explaining what we’ve detected
- We work with you – Most issues have simple explanations or easy fixes
- We provide guidance – If there’s a security concern, we help you address it
Resolving False Positives
Running a high-traffic service that’s been flagged? Simply open a support ticket and we’ll:
- Whitelist your VPS from monitoring alerts
- Adjust thresholds for your specific use case
- Document your legitimate traffic patterns
Transparency and Privacy
What Data We Keep
- Network traffic statistics (volume, packet rates, bandwidth)
- Timestamps of unusual activity
- Pattern analysis results
What We Don’t Keep
- Packet contents or payload data
- Browsing history or web traffic details
- Personal communications or file contents
All monitoring data is used solely for network security and performance optimization, never for marketing or tracking purposes.
Security Best Practices
Help us keep the network clean by following these simple guidelines:
Keep Your VPS Secure:
- Use strong passwords and SSH keys
- Keep your software updated
- Run only necessary services
- Use a firewall (we recommend UFW or iptables)
Monitor Your Own Traffic:
- Check for unexpected network usage
- Review login attempts regularly
- Monitor running processes
Report Issues:
- Notice unusual activity? Let us know
- Suspect your VPS is compromised? Contact support immediately
- We’re here to help, not to judge
Your Rights as a Customer
- Appeal any actions – If your service is affected, you can always appeal
- Request monitoring exemption – For verified legitimate high-traffic services
- Access your data – Request information about any monitoring alerts on your account
- Privacy protection – We never share customer data with third parties except where legally required
Questions?
Our monitoring systems are designed to be invisible to legitimate users while protecting everyone from abuse. If you have questions about:
- Whether your application will trigger monitoring
- How to request email rate limit increases
- Getting your service whitelisted
- Security best practices for your specific use case
Contact our support team – we’re always happy to discuss your specific needs and ensure your services run smoothly.
