Most VPS hosts mark up Microsoft licensing onto your monthly bill. A typical Windows VPS at £19/month is often £6-7 of hardware plus £12-13 of Microsoft licence resale. We don’t do that. Bring your own Windows licence and pay only for the VPS hardware.
Where to get a Windows licence if you don’t have one: Microsoft Volume Licensing (the big-business path), Visual Studio Professional / Enterprise subscriptions (free Windows keys for dev/test), MSDN, retail product keys from Microsoft’s store, or authorised SPLA partners (monthly Windows Server licensing for hosting providers).
If you already have an MSDN/Visual Studio subscription through work, you probably already have keys for Windows Server. If you don’t, Microsoft sell Windows Server licences directly. The licensing is yours, the VPS is ours.
