The long-awaited Proxmox VE 9 BETA has officially landed, and it’s packed with powerful upgrades that push virtualization further into the future. Built on Debian 13 “Trixie” and powered by Linux Kernel 6.14, this release introduces a wave of enhancements across performance, networking, storage, and usability.

Key Highlights in Proxmox VE 9 BETA

  • QEMU 10.0.2: Faster VM launches, improved live migration, and better NUMA awareness
  • LXC 6.0.4: Full cgroup v2 support and tighter container isolation
  • ZFS 2.3.3: RAID-Z expansion and smarter snapshot handling
  • Ceph 19.2 “Squid”: GUI-based install and full-mesh cluster support
  • SDN Fabrics: Advanced routed networking for spine-leaf and multi-layer topologies
  • Shared LVM Snapshots: Tech preview for thick-provisioned volumes over SAN
  • Network Interface Pinning: Persistent NIC naming across upgrades
  • Dark Mode by Default: A sleek new look for the web UI
  • TPM2 Encryption & Boot Detection: Enhanced installer with better ZFS and security support
  • In-place Upgrade Support: Seamless transition from Proxmox VE 8.x

Notably, GlusterFS support has been removed, and cgroup v1 is fully deprecated, meaning containers must now use cgroup v2. The system also enables non-free firmware by default for better CPU microcode patching.

Beta Caveats

As with any beta release, Proxmox VE 9.0 BETA is not recommended for production environments. While it’s stable enough for testing and lab deployments, users should expect occasional bugs and incomplete features. Backup everything before upgrading, and follow the official upgrade guide if transitioning from Proxmox VE 8.x.

Coming Soon to VM6 Networks

Once Proxmox VE 9 reaches stable release, VM6 Networks will offer it as a pre-installed option on our dedicated servers. Clients will be able to deploy Proxmox 9 with full support for ZFS, Ceph, and SDN fabrics—perfect for building resilient, high-performance virtualization clusters.

Whether you’re running a home lab or scaling out enterprise workloads, VM6 will ensure your infrastructure is ready for the next generation of virtualization.
